Maccabee Apparel's logo is based on artist Mark Strauss's original design for the Shield of Judas Maccabaeus (Judah the Hammer), the legendary ancient Hebrew warrior.  Maccabaeus led rebel forces against the oppressive and brutal Seleucid occupation of Judaea (modern-day Israel), liberating the Holy Land and rededicating the Temple for its original purpose.
